Beauty Lesson #4: Nail Polish

I am not so much of a nail polish kind of person. For whatever reason, I have never been able to wear a color on my fingers. It distracts me from what I'm doing and drives me nuts. I have to remove it within hours. I find this strange since I LOVE acrylic nails. Oh well.

I do, however, LOVE to wear nail polish on my toes. It makes this very athletic Tomboy feel more feminine. I also think toenail polish is completely adorable on little ones. So, since my Sweet Pea was a baby I have been trying to paint hers. This didn't work very well when she was a baby because she would wake up when I was painting and smear it everywhere. I gave up for a while.

But last week, Sweet Pea found the nail polish and wanted it "ohp." (open) I asked her if she wanted to paint her nails and she said, "esss." (yes) So, I ventured into painting her nails again. I told her to hold still and NOT move. She didn't the WHOLE TIME. She sat perfectly still, watched me paint, and then even waited for me to get the Q-tips and polish remover to clean up my mess on the little toesies.

So much fun. AND SHE LOVED IT!!

Beauty Lesson #3: Kids Make-Up

I have a growing little girl who notices EVERYTHING I do. And wants to do it all. This includes putting on my make-up. I know that lots of people have rules about when their little girls get to wear make-up or nail polish, but I just don't want to have one more thing (I'm sure there will be many) to fight about over the growing up years. I figure that make-up is one I can control because I do the buying and I say when. So, when it comes to the morning get ready time, I made it make-up time.

Sweet Pea will grab my make-up bag and bring it to the bathroom. She climbs up the stool in front of the sink and starts going through my bag. I put on my eye liner, and then shadow. Sweet Pea gets her own little bit of shadow. (the lightest shade I have) Then I put on my mascara. While I'm doing things that she doesn't get to use, I have a couple of make-up brushes that she uses on herself. If I get to the blush that day, she gets a little dash. Then we brush our teeth together before applying our lipstick.

Sweet Pea LOVES make-up time. She gets to be just like mommy without compromising her cute toddler look. When she gets a little older and starts wanting to use mascara, then I will go buy those throw away mascara brushes and use them without the color. Like having a razor for a little boy without the actual razor part.

This time is also time for me. I have a chance to get ready for the day AND my Sweet Pea doesn't feel like she has to wine and cry about wanting to do what I do OR wanting something else. It's a taste of bliss for me.

This past weekend Sweet Pea was getting her make-up on while I was and I just hadn't noticed what she had grabbed. You are already envisioning it aren't you? The Lipstick. Bright Pink, by the way. She had it out and was putting it on herself. I was afraid she was going to get it all over her Sunday dress, but she didn't. I was ONLY around her lips. Right where it was supposed to be. Completely cute. AND funny. See, she really is learning something.

Not too bad for her first venture with make-up on her own.

What are your make-up rules?

Beauty Lesson #2

Never let your hair look this poorly. Wash it every other day. Condition at least twice a week. And brush it every day.

This is what happens when you fall off the wagon:

Oh, yes. This is my hair (and me with no make up) that is in much need of a new style and probably color. My hair is long, scraggly, dull and I just don't do anything with it anymore.

I need a new look. I'm thinking something shorter and darker.

Any ideas for my new look?

Flowers for Sweet Pea's Hair

Clippies

Buttons/Bling

Silk Flowers

Last week, I spent a blissful morning that my Sweet Pea slept in for, putting together beautiful flowers for her headbands. They were so simple. I had no idea they would be so easy. I think I'm going to have to do more.

I didn't have time to get good pictures of them all. Here are just a few. I will post the others later, in better light.

I have so many I don't know what to do with them all.

Embrace Yourself Week 2010 with The Mommyologists

I thought this was a superb idea. The Mommyologist wanted us all to, instead of addressing all of those horrific things about our bodies that we HaTe, address the things about our bodies that we love.

Go see her vlog HERE.

This is something I really needed to do. I have spent the last few years getting my body into better shape than when I was in High School only to get pregnant and find myself yearning to even be close to the starting line. (not to mention the finish line)

Anyway, I'm letting you all know that I love:

My Feet:

My face:

It seems to be the first place I lose weight.

My strength:

I may be fat, but I have always been the "Tough One" and I like that. It made it so with not much exercise and only 6 months after having my Sweet Pea I could climb this VERY steep mountain trail.

Link up. It's fun

Beauty Lesson #1

Flailing

Screaming

Tears streaming down the face

What is it about the nail clipping time that makes little ones freak out? Mine had a complete meltdown today. One that lasted 30 minutes after I finished cutting the nails. I don't usually snip the end of her fingers. I'm just that talented. And usually she doesn't freak out quite so bad.

However, today was extra difficult. I did really well in the beginning. I made it through 10 toes and 9 fingers.

2 Snips left.

1 out of 2. Good.

Last snip. . .

Oh No!

She jerked her hand at the last second.

Got it.

Her finger nail AND the end of her thumb.

Bleeding on mom's shirt.

I felt so bad. I don't want to inflict pain on my Sweet Pea. I guess we have to educate early. (3 months isn't too early is it?)

Lesson #1:
Pain is Beauty

What did you do to simplify the nail cutting process and to avoid painful endings?
